Forgiveness is rarely instant. These verses don't pretend it's simple — they just point the way through.

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
Colossians 3:13 (KJV)“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV)Forgiveness gets reduced sometimes to a single decision, but Ephesians and Colossians both describe it as something ongoing — forbearing, forgiving, a posture more than a one-time event. It also doesn't mean the hurt didn't happen, or that reconciliation is automatic or even safe in every situation. It means releasing your grip on repaying it yourself, the same way it was released to you.
