Bible Verses for Grief and Loss

There's no fixing grief, only carrying it. These words were written for exactly that.

// the word for this moment

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 (KJV)

More Scripture for grief and loss

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Matthew 5:4 (KJV)

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Revelation 21:4 (KJV)

What this means for you

Grief isn't a problem to be solved — it's love with nowhere left to go. Psalm 34 doesn't promise an explanation for loss; it promises nearness. 'The Lord is nigh' means close, present, not distant while you fall apart. You don't have to perform strength to be near to God right now. The broken heart is exactly where He says He meets you, not the healed one.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, I am brokenhearted, and I don't have words for all of it. Be near to me the way You promised — not after I've pulled myself together, but now, in the middle of this. Hold what I can't carry. Comfort the parts of this loss that no one else can see. I trust You with my grief because I don't know what else to do with it. Amen.
