Bible in One Year Devotional Text: Isaiah 1-2 Today's Bible reading really spoke to me especially when reading Isaiah 1. Isaiah 1 highlighted WORSHIP VS. HEART. -A major critique in chapter 1:11-13 is that God rejects religious performance----such as sacrifices---- when the hearts of the people are far from Him (18:55). -God seeks honest covenantal relationship rather than just outward compliance (20:47). #FunFact Isaiah [known as the court prophet] was a member of the royal family and likely a cousin to King Uzziah (5:38 - 6:27). This is unlike Micah who operated as a "field prophet" (6:05 - 6:27) This explains the unusual access Isaiah had to the kings of Judah, allowing him to walk up to them freely offering counsel or confrontation (5:49 - 6:27). #NerdyNugget King Uzziah is also referred to as Azariah (3:06). This dual naming is a known feature in the historical accounts of the kings of Judah. (Source: Dr. Manny Arango @ The Bible Dept.)
